Marla, Marla, Marla!... If you are as tired of hearing this as I am, than you've come to the right place! I'm the Shane in Marla and Shane Photography. I'm bigger, faster, stronger, and way funnier than Marla, and I want to have a great time with you at the beach! I want to capture images of your family laughing and playing, having fun and interacting with each other. When you look at your photographs, I want you to be able to look back on our time together and laugh, cry, or at the very least smile!

There will be nothing stuffy or forced about the session. For crying out loud... we're at the beach... it dosen't get much better than this!

Sessions will begin about an hour before sunset. (sunrise sessions available) I know some great spots to shoot, but I'm more than happy to come to the beach location of your choice.

If you want to wear white and khaki you can, but don't think you have to! Color is great... look through the portfolio for some good examples. Stay away from busy patterns and crazy logos that will distract from your images.

Your family is special, and our beaches are beautiful. I see no need to torture your family by forcing you to pose with a fake star fish, conk shell, or model sail boat. (I'm not even sure these things occur naturally on our beaches)

Moms, please, please, please pass this information on to Dad and the kids... there is no reason they should dread this! I personally guarantee that this experience will not stink! In fact, they will probably end up having a great time, and hopefully take with them a memory that brings happiness for years to come.

what can we expect from the session?

You can expect your session to be very casual and relaxed. It is more like an evening at the beach, than a portrait session. My ultimate goal is to capture your family comfortable and having fun... be ing yourselves.

what can parents do to help?

• Tell your children they are going to the beach to play and have fun. (It's true!) You might want to tell this to dad while you're at it. :)
• Let your children take a look at the pictures on our website. (yes, this really works) Read the "what to expect" to them. Let them know that this is different!
• Trust that I can make your child smile. Please do not tell them to say Cheese!
• Be patient
• Be happy
• Don't sweat the small things! They WILL get sandy, and maybe a little wet. (You might too!)

can i buy the digital negatives from the session?

Yes! The digital negatives are available as a complete set for $3800 and come with a finished 5x7 print of each image in your gallery. Individual files are available for purchase with the purchase of a portrait collection.

how much should i plan to invest?

Our style of shooting lends itself to creating wall displays and archiving images in heirloom albums. Most clients will order a collection and then add to it in order to personalize their displays. Co llections range in price from $1400 to $3800. We have a minimum purchase requirement of $1000.

what should our child wear?

• Something comfortable
• Something with color
• Something with texture
• Something you love them in!
• Something they do not hate!

what should they not wear?

• Big bows
• formal wear
• All white
• Logos
• Busy patterns
• Shoes, especially crocs
• Anything you will feel the need to fuss and fiddle with!

where does the session take place?

All photography is done on location in natural light. I am very familiar with the parks and communities along 30A, and can make recommendations based on what you want to achieve from the session. We will work together to choose a location that works best for you and your family.

when will we see our proofs?

Approximately two weeks after your session, I will email you a link to an online slideshow and ordering instructions.

can we have a family picture taken?

Of course you can, but please keep in mind that I do not specialize in traditional "posed" family portraits. I will capture your family laughing, playing, and interacting in a natural way. Parents/grandparents should be dressed and ready even if you think you don't want to be in the pictures. Chances are you will be anyway!

what if it rains?

We spend most of the day with one eye on the weather! Often it will rain during the day and be beautiful around sunset. If we decide together that the weather is not suitable for a session, we will do our best to reschedule you for another day. Should that not be an option due to travel dates, the session fee is fully refundable.

what if my child gets sick?

If your child is sick, please call as soon a possible to reschedule. We are parents and realize that sometimes this happens. Please try to call at least 24 hours before your session as we do often have a waiting list and someone to fill your spot. In our experience, a sick, grumpy child makes for a (you fill in the blank) session. So no need to force things! We can easily edit out bumps, scrapes, and claw marks!
